Do You Feel Restricted in Life?
“Nothing is more dangerous than an idea if it’s the only one you have.”
Benjamin Disraeli
It’s essentially a way to break down the barriers we put in our minds, questioning the assumptions and beliefs that shape how we see challenges. Often, the limitations we feel are based on internalized ideas, many of which may not even be true or fully accurate. It’s like dismantling mental walls piece by piece.
Think of any current limitations you’re facing in life. Write out a ‘stream of consciousness’ for a few minutes, non-stop, without editing or censoring your thoughts.
Afterward, begin questioning what you wrote. Consider these prompts and write down your answers:
Who or what specifically bothers me?
How exactly is this happening?
Who says it’s happening?
What prevents me from doing things or feeling the way I want?
What would happen if I did this or that?
When am I going to take action?
What leads me to believe this?
How exactly do I make myself feel or think this way?
How do I know this is true?
Take note of how this exercise affects your thinking about the problem. Did it help in any way? If so, in what way specifically?
Make a habit of practicing this exercise a few more times over the next several days and observe how it impacts your perception of your difficulties.
Affirmation: I can handle anything that today brings my way.
