Start of the Day
“With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts.”
Eleanor Roosevelt
Do you wake up in the morning already smiling, or does your mind begin its usual overthinking routine before you even get out of bed?
Many of us lie awake at night replaying the day, analysing conversations, and worrying about tomorrow. It’s no wonder that we sometimes wake up tired and unmotivated. No one can rise every single morning feeling radiant, ready to sing with the birds. But there are gentle ways to shift the mind toward a brighter beginning.
One simple practice is to give yourself something to look forward to. Each night before you fall asleep, choose one small joy for the next day. It doesn’t have to be grand or complicated. It could be treating yourself to lunch at a place you love, arranging to meet a friend, making that long overdue phone call, wandering through a gallery, or simply enjoying a cappuccino in your favourite café.
Write down your chosen pleasure on a piece of paper and leave it by your bed. As you drift off, focus only on this thought. Resist the urge to analyse the day or plan tomorrow. Instead, let anticipation carry you into rest.
When morning comes, before the world rushes in, remind yourself of the little delight that awaits you. It may seem small, but even the act of looking forward gives the day a softer, more hopeful beginning.
Today’s Affirmation: Today is a great day.
