“Wanted to share few words of gratitude about this amazing business. Marie and Jaqueline are very supportive, inspiring and without them I would be still lost in my recovery.
I just came back from a beautiful retreat in Lanzarote which was guided by them. Love the empowerment and constant reassurance that life doesn’t need to be so small as the condition makes it. The best mental health service in Dublin. They actually want you to succeed!”

– MTC Freedom Retreat Participant 2024

“Flying to Lanzarote by myself was one of the scariest things I have ever undertaken but I faced my fears and never looked back!   An insightful week full of learning, connections, appreciation, and of course laughter.  I would highly recommend the retreat to anybody at any stage of their journey.  Your body, soul, and mind will reap the rewards”.

What to expect from our R&R Programme in Lanzarote?

This will be the Marino Therapy Centre’s 24th Recovery & Recuperation programme. The R & R programme will be filled with learnings, adventures and new discoveries, not just about the world around you, but the world within you.

This programme will not just provide you with the theory, but also the practical side of Freedom and Recovery.

The powerful elements of the island such as Earth, Wind, Water and Fire, are connected to the elements of Freedom. You will be learning how to connect all of these. You will also be learning how to live in a more connected way, not just to your body and food, but to the world around you, and the people in it.

The island of Lanzarote provides a unique environment where you will have the opportunity to learn from, and discover it’s raw beauty.

Your R&R trip will be individually based, and tailored to your individual requirements. The personally tailored programme will include :

  • Welcome Pack
  • Personal Freedom Workbook
  • Daily Recovery Exercises
  • Nutritional Sessions
  • 1:1 Sessions
  • Sunrise & Sunset Sessions

This programme will give you the unique experience that cannot be found within the limits of a therapy room.

If you have any questions or queries, or wish to apply for our Recovery & Recuperation Programme 2024, please email us at marinotherapycentre@gmail.com or contact us here.

We hope to see you in the sun in 2024.

Testimonials from previous R&R Trips :

“Flying to Lanzarote by myself was one of the scariest things I have ever undertaken but I faced my fears and never looked back!   An insightful week full of learning, connections, appreciation, and of course laughter.  I would highly recommend the retreat to anybody at any stage of their journey.  Your body, soul, and mind will reap the rewards”.

“This week was a turning point in my recovery. I learnt so much about myself and about life. Being away in a different environment, with support, really showed me how far I had come and how far I could go. I got a taste of what life really was and I realised I wanted it and I wanted it badly. What I learnt in that week would have taken me months to learn.”

“On this trip, I felt free, grateful and alive. It’s worth it to all those who may be afraid to go. We all have the same fears, no one thing exclusive to you, each of us understands and helps each other to conquer our fears”

“It has been the most powerful week in my recovery, even though really emotional! It turned recovery into a special journey”

R & R – HOW IT CAN HELP SPEED UP RECOVERY

From our experiences, we have learnt that this program can be an another successful tool in recovery from Eating Distress/Eating Disorder.

Working on recovery, away from familiar ‘condition friendly safe’ environments, means that it can be easier to challenge thoughts and behaviours.

There are many benefits to R and R. This programme encourages people to open up their senses. The aim is to highlight what living is, what beauty is around them, and most importantly, what beauty is within them. The programme also encourages and promotes their own independence to enjoy their holiday and enjoy living. On their return home, they would then use this learning in their own environment. The added bonus is that they can have the benefit and assurance of Eating Distress/Eating Disorder Practitioner and Recovery Coach close by to continue with recovery, challenge the condition, hope, motivation, inspiration, walking the talk, and working with people to do it for themselves.

People attending our R & R Programme, can see, in a real situation, recovery in action, not just in theory, it gives us the opportunity to go beyond the limits of a therapy room.

WHY INTENSIVE WORK?

There is evidence, and also basic common sense, that would suggest that the more you challenge something, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.

Take for example studying for an exam, the more you study the better the results you get. With study it is not about quantity, but quality of the study you do.  Intensive programmes are a very similar concept, and for many can be a critical form of intervention, and support for both client and family. For many it may be a necessary intervention tool at the beginning of therapy, when the condition is at it’s strongest, and the person has little awareness, hope or motivation for life.  For some, intensive therapy is more beneficial for finalising recovery, and this brings about the concept that recovery is individual, and needs to be tailored to what each person needs, and what works best for them at that time.

Intensive therapy is not a quick fix, but a boost, a good start and an additional tool in a person’s recovery.  Anything that offers hope has the potential to heal.

Intensive programmes can help show a person what recovery really is.  That it is learning how to deal with life, and all of its issues and problems, in a constructive way without turning to food or starvation. Learning to get a lot more out of life and melt the limitations that the condition put on it.

Recovery from Eating Distress/Eating Disorder is learning how to balance life with other things, like friendships, work, hobbies and interests.  Recovery is learning to make more helpful choices in ones life and finding out who the real self is.  Intensity can help begin this process or finalise this process.

Having therapy sessions abroad can help people discover the surrounding beauty, and this can then progress to discovering the beauty that lies within them.  The combination of the different environment, people and supervised assistance, and the use of individual therapy, and support can be an extra intensive boost on the road to full Freedom.

Using this setting could be the perfect opportunity to address some of the following:

  • Nutritional Therapy
  • Restoration of Positive Body Image
  • Relearning to Sense Hunger & Fullness
  • Expressive Therapy
  • How can we relate & connect more effectively?

This program can allow people to focus on recovery in an indirect manner, and in a way, help people to forget therapy, but not to forget what has been learned about recovery.

Creating opportunities for the person to get absorbed in the culture and different lifestyles around them.

R and R  programs are structured, and personally tailored according to the person’s specific needs. Every attendee will be provided with a personal ‘Recovery Workbook’, designed to their requirements.
