One Day

This is a little message for anyone out there having a challenging time. Because I know how tough it can be when you’re listening to all this ‘New Year-New Me’ nonsense. You’re trying to do your recovery, but people are talking about being good, and eating lettuce and operation transformation and how many syns someone synned for their synful dinner. And you want to scream at someone, or scream at yourself, or go hide in your room and never come out.

But, head up.

Right up.

Lift it up, and listen to me.

One day you’re going to look at this stuff in amusement. Susan with her January diet is not going to get to you. I promise.

One day your January will be just one giant eye roll.

One day you’re going to be writing about this one time when you had ED, and it was soooo hard. But then you chose to keep going with recovery even on the hard days in dark old diet-obsessed January, and how bloody proud you are of yourself.

So please don’t give up. Please just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Play the songs that cheer you up. Watch a youtube video of your favourite comedian. Write a gratitude list. Turn off the TV. Click out of Facebook.

I know you can be so used to doing behaviours that you don’t even know what it’s like to show yourself kindness, to feel nourished and present, to feel content, to like yourself. But keep going.

One day you’re going to be writing a message just like this one for someone else coming behind you.

But for today- just don’t give up.
