Many people in recovery from eating distress or emotional distress live incredibly busy lives. As countless studies show, being constantly busy can drain the body far more than we realise. That’s why it’s essential to nourish ourselves with care, presence, and consistency.
These days, it’s not enough to wait until we’re very hungry to eat. We need to bring more awareness, consciousness, and kindness to our nourishment. And here’s the good news: awareness does not mean overthinking or overanalysing. Quite the opposite.

With a bit of preparation and intention, we can create meals that are simple, fast, and incredibly supportive for the body. Preparation doesn’t have to be time-consuming; in fact, the right kind of preparation saves energy, cuts stress, and brings joy back into daily eating.

Breakfast is a hug in the morning.
There are many different theories these days about whether we should or shouldn’t eat breakfast. But for people recovering from eating distress or disordered eating, breakfast is essential.
It helps stabilise energy, mood, hunger cues, and supports healing.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. A good breakfast fuels you; a great one inspires you.
Here are some suggestions for you breakfast menus:
Your Homemade Muesli
Your own muesli can be one of the fastest and tastiest starts to the day.
It keeps you going, nourishes your body, and is endlessly customisable.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup rolled oats
- ½ cup chopped or flaked almonds
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- ⅓ cup chopped dates, apricots, or raisins or dried mango or pinapple
- A sprinkle of cinnamon
- 1 chopped banana (optional)
- Seasonal or frozen berries (optional)
Method:
- Combine oats, almonds, yogurt, and dried fruit in a bowl.
- Add cinnamon and any extras like banana or berries.
- Mix well and enjoy immediately, or double/triple the recipe and refrigerate for up to 5 days.

Recovery Friendly Pancakes
Pancakes don’t need to be saved for Pancake Tuesday. Your body will appreciate them whenever you feel like having them. They’re comforting, wholesome, and delicious.
Ingredients:
- 4 oz flour
- 1 large egg
- ½ pint milk
- ½ tablespoon coconut oil (for cooking)
Method:
- Sieve the flour into a bowl.
- Add the egg and 1 tablespoon of milk. Mix to combine.
- Gradually add the remaining milk, stirring continuously.
- Beat the mixture for 5 minutes to incorporate air.
- Melt the coconut oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Pour enough batter to thinly coat the pan.
- Cook until golden underneath, then flip or turn with a palette knife.
- When both sides are golden, remove from the pan.
- Add lemon juice, fruit, yogurt, or honey.
- Let conditioning go. Enjoy and taste every bite.

Ingredients:
- 1–2 slices whole-grain or sourdough bread
- ½–1 ripe avocado
- Drizzle of extra virgin olive oil
- Pinch of sea salt & pepper and oregano
- Optional toppings: cherry tomatoes, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, lemon zest
Method:
- Toast the bread until golden.
- Mash the avocado onto the toast or slice it neatly.
- Drizzle with olive oil and add your favourite toppings.
- Enjoy with a warm drink for a balanced, soothing start to the day.
