‘Character – the willingness to accept responsibility for one’s own life, the source from which self-respect springs’.
We can often feel overwhelmed by the idea of taking responsibility for our lives. Sometimes, rather than looking forward to it, we prefer to worry about what is going to happen in the future.
Many of us have had troubled lives in the past, and often feel powerless to change the circumstances or situations we find ourselves living in on a daily basis. It is nearly easier to focus on these negative circumstances rather than face the future, and what might happen. The truth is that often we find it easier to blame others for the lives we are leading rather than take responsibility for our own actions. What is in the past is in the past you cannot relive it, and you cannot change it. Living in the past never helped anyone to change his or her future. Start in the here and now. Taking responsibility for your actions, for your recovery and life, is a sign of spiritual growth. Being fully responsible for your own life and the way you feel will make you feel empowered, and make you realise that you are who you choose to be. This in turn gives you hope and makes the future something to look forward to and enjoy.
Learning to make the right choices about the present moment is one way of building up confidence and preventing yourself from returning to the role of the victim.
Today bring your new sense of awareness to bear on every moment when you are faced with making a choice. Ask yourself is it your condition that is making the choice or is it the real you.
Today is the day I cast off all my emotional baggage.
