‘When one door closes another doors opens, but we so often look so long and regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the ones which opens for us.’ (Alexander Graham Bell)
Of course you’re sure you’ve never heard about this therapy. What a pity but there’s no time like the present to learn. With an Eating Distress we have a quite low frustration tolerance. If we are stuck in a traffic jam all that negativity starts to play on our minds. We get stressed out worrying about what we are going to miss, the fact that we are going to be late, the worry about the person who is going to be angry with us…This reflex is so automatic that we don’t even realise that we’re only feeling like this because, we are frustrated.
In situations like this we need to direct our thinking to things, which have not gone wrong yet. Like, for example, at least I have enough petrol to be stuck here, or, at least I have tomorrow off to sort out the things that I don’t have time to deal with today.
From now on, or at least for today, if you notice you are starting to feel frustrated, remind yourself that there is something that is working for you, and at least you are able to think this way.
Today’s Affirmation: For every problem there is always a solution.
