I watched the late late show which had a very controversial guest-Katie Hopkins. I know anybody reading this is probably going to assume that I’m going to go into some rant about how awful she is, about how she shouldn’t be allowed on the TV, about how vulgar her comments are-wrong! It’s not that I don’t think this-my opinion (we are all allowed to have one) is that she is not a well woman and yes I agree that some of the things that come out of her mouth are appalling. But, this is not what I am choosing to write about. What I want to write about is choice.
For the last few days I have seen nothing but complaints about how Katie was going to be on the Late Late show. Over 1000 emails were sent into RTE regarding her appearance, there have been numerous people popping up on my Facebook complaining. One thing that struck me was there was a lot of moaning but yet nothing would change because moaning doesn’t work. We all have a choice and most of us I’m sure have a remote control for the TV so if you don’t like it turn it off. There’s the action that made the change, we have the power to do something about it. Moaning about it will simply not change it. All of this just screamed helplessness to me,wanting somebody else to fix the situation for them. If RTE take her off air then I’ll be happy, when x or y happens then I’ll be happy (sound familiar??) We have a choice to be happy in our current situation, we have a choice to change the things that are not making us happy or to at least change how we react to them.
I realised that for a long time in my journey I complained. I didn’t like the situation I was in so rather than change it I complained…..trust me it didn’t get me far! If you don’t like Katie Hopkins change the channel and if you don’t like what’s happening in your life change it!
Nobody will come to “fix” you (I waited a while for this too!!) Please realise you are the one sitting with the remote control to your own life-start browsing through the channels!!
Be the change that you wish to see in the world. Mahatma Gandhi
